The successor to GPT-3, released on March 14, GPT-4 is a technology behind ChatGPT, known as the viral chatbot. So what is GPT-4 and how is it used?
The San Francisco artificial intelligence lab, co-founded by Elon Musk and Sam Altman in 2015, said in a blog post that its latest version is “multimodal,” meaning the platform can accept image and text inputs and output text.
What is ChatGPT? What are the differences between GPT-3 and GPT-4?
GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) stands for pre-trained generative converter, a type of large language model (LLM) neural network that can perform various natural language processing tasks such as answering questions, summarizing text, and even generating lines of code.
These large language models use deep learning technique to produce texts just as written by a human.
As for the question of what is ChatGPT, ChatGPT; It is an artificial intelligence chatbot application that uses the language models of GPT-3 and GPT-4. So if ChatGPT were a car, the engine powering it would be GPT-3 or GPT-4.
GPT-3 was first released in 2020 and was trained on 175 billion parameters, making it the largest neural network produced at that time. Continuing to develop continuously, the GPT-3 was launched in 2022 with the GPT-3.5 series, in which it made detailed improvements.
GPT-4 is the successor of GPT-3. OpenAI says this latest version can handle up to 25,000 words. So that’s roughly eight times the GPT-3. It also surpasses GPT-3.5 in terms of processing images and processing much more detailed instructions.
How can you access GPT-4?
If you are new to ChatGPT, you can visit chat.openai.com and then create an account for free to access GPT-3.
To gain access to GPT-4, you need to purchase its premium service for $20 per month. Note that at the time of writing, GPT-4 has a limit of 100 messages every four hours.
What are the new things you can do with GPT-4?
OpenAI says the GPT-4 is “perfect for tasks that require advanced reasoning, complex instruction understanding, and more creativity.”
Identifying images and creating recipes
Thanks to the multimodal feature of GPT-4, users can upload images such as flour, butter, egg and milk photos and get delicious recipe suggestions based on these images. However, this feature does not appear to be available to GPT-4 subscribers yet.
When asked when the training data was last updated to test GPT-4’s new capabilities, GPT-4 replied:
“My training data was last updated in September 2021. As a result, my knowledge and understanding of events, developments and advances is limited to this time period. I am unable to report on any events or updates that have occurred since then.”
We see that AI chatbots are developing rapidly. In February 2023, Google launched its own chatbot Bard, which uses a different language model called LaMDA.
In addition to Google, tech giants like Microsoft, Huawei, Alibaba, and Baidu are racing to deliver their own versions amid fierce competition to dominate this booming AI industry.
