In today’s world, gaming is more than just a hobby, it has become a business for some. On top of that, when the games were opened to a world with special requests as hardware, almost everyone started to hear some concepts. What is FPS, one of the first concepts you hear when you step into the game world, and why is it so important?
All content in games and video world is formed by ordering the images in seconds. It is very important that these images have a certain speed. This is where FPS comes into play and is very important, especially in online games. High FPS will give you great advantages in terms of fluency and speed in the game.
What Does FPS Do?
FPS is short for two different titles. Therefore, “What is FPS?” There is no single answer to the question. The first of these is First Person Shooter, which is a type of game, and the other is the term Frames Per Second, which is the main subject of this article. Allowing you to measure the performance of the display device, FPS shows the number of full-frame scans per second on the display screen.
A higher FPS value means that the image on the screen will be smoother. In this way, the person in front of the screen sees the image more fluently and smoothly. High FPS value means higher performance in games as well as good looks. Gaming monitors today climb to 300 FPS and even higher.
How Can You See Your FPS Values?
For the FPS value offered by many different applications and systems, if you are playing the game on Steam, you can see the value by saying “In-Game FPS Counter” under Settings – In-Game. If you have GeForce Experience, you can see the value in Settings – In-game overlay – Settings – HUD layout – FPS Counter. For Windows Game Bar, you can display all performance data, including FPS, with the Windows + G shortcut. If you do not have these systems, you can find out your value by installing the FRAPS program. After installing this program, when you enter any game, the FPS value will appear directly in the area you specify. You can follow the steps below for this process:
- Download the FRAPS program and run the setup file and install it by following the steps.
- After installing the program, open it and click on the FPS section at the top.
- Select where you want the value to appear from the Overlay Corner button on the right side of the screen.
- In the Overlay Hotkey section, save a key to turn the FPS indicator on and off. That’s it.
How to Increase FPS?
Before FPS increase, “What should be the ideal FPS?” need to answer the question. For standard games, values of 30 and above are sufficient. However, sometimes you may see a slightly rough image. Anything below 30 will make the games unplayable. The most fluent value is 60. With an FPS value of 60 and above, you can have a very fluent experience in games. However, the screen refresh rate also needs to keep up. Even if you have 300 FPS, if the screen refresh rate is 60 Hz, you will only get 60 FPS. So both values must be high.
If you are experiencing low FPS in games, you should first check your video card drivers. Outdated drivers can be a problem. In addition, unnecessary applications that are open in the background also put unnecessary load on the processor. This also affects performance. Apart from that, the game bar in Windows 10 affects performance badly. However, playing games in full screen mode allows the system to fully focus on the game and provides better performance.
To increase FPS, you can pay attention to the following;
- Change or update your video card.
- Use PC cleaning and optimization programs.
- From the performance options, choose the visual effects as “Adjust for best performance”.
- Fix your computer’s power settings and update the game graphics settings.
- Close all unnecessary background apps and open programs.
- Keep the graphics settings as low as possible.
- Keep your hardware up-to-date and get the most up-to-date parts whenever possible.
