Memory cards, which are used in every field from smartphones to cameras today, are technological tools that offer the opportunity to store large files on a very small piece of plastic. The use of memory cards for recording, especially in the fields of photography and cinema, makes these tools very advantageous and superior from a technical point of view. If you are wondering what are the types of memory cards, we invite you below!
There are 6 types of memory cards that are widely used today. Each of these cards is produced with different features. One of the most important features of memory cards is data writing and reading speeds. Let’s see what the different types of memory cards are.
SD Memory Card
SD memory cards are memory cards with storage capacities ranging from 128 MB to 2 GB. The default file system is FAT16. SD memory cards can be used in any device that supports SD, SDHC and SDXC type memory cards. The microSD model of SD memory cards is widely used in smartphones and tablet computers today.
SDHC Memory Card
SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) is the same size as standard SD memory cards. SDHC, a type of SD card, is used for high-quality image processing and recording. When an SD card’s storage capacity exceeds 4GB, it is now called SDHC.
The storage capacity of SDHC memory cards ranges from 4GB to 32GB. Since the purpose of SDHC memory cards is more specific, they have less device support than the SD memory card types, which are generally preferred in storage. Before purchasing an SDHC memory card, it should be checked whether the device to be used supports SDHC type card.
SDXC Memory Card
SDXC (Secure Digital eXtended Capacity) is a type of memory card that has the upper features of SDHC type memory cards. The storage capacity of this memory card can go from 64GB to 2TB. Data read and write speeds are more advanced than other types. Tasks that require processing power such as data processing, recording or viewing records can be done quickly thanks to this card type. They are frequently used in new generation cameras, camcorders and camcorders.
The standard file system of the SDXC memory card type is exFAT. They cannot be used in devices where SD type memory cards and SDHC type memory cards are used, since the target user group and device structures are top models. SDXC type memory card can be installed on devices where SDHC memory card can be used with extra components such as card reader, but the operating system of the device must support exFAT format in order for data to be written and read. This is only available on devices that support the use of SDXC type memory cards, that is, products manufactured after 2010.
MicroSD Memory Card
MicroSD memory cards are cards that are much smaller in size than other types of memory cards. Thanks to their small size, they are widely used in thin devices such as mobile phones and tablets, as well as in devices such as action cameras and drones, where large sizes are not reserved for storage. Today, there are MicroSD models that can go up to 256 GB and offer quite enough storage capacity despite its small size.
MicroSDHC Memory Cards
MicroSDHC memory cards are very small in size of SDHC cards, which are a higher version of SD card. Such memory cards can process up to 10 MB of data per second. Its usage areas are again compact products such as mobile phones and tablet computers. Despite their small size, they achieve speeds that are quite sufficient for a mobile phone.
MicroSDXC Memory Card
This type of card, which has the features of microSDHC type memory cards, offers up to 2 TB of storage despite its small size. Compared to other types of micro memory cards, it has higher data processing, reading, writing and display speeds. To use this type of memory card, the device must have a MicroSDXC slot.
