There were lucky and unlucky things for those who were kids in the 90s and 2000s. Surely they were lucky to have grown up with an arcade. Recently played on the street, arcade may be the only thing that can keep us at home. So how do we feel when we rewatch the games we played now? Let’s have a look.
Playing games is a passion for some and just a fun activity for others. Today, we can find thousands of games on our PlayStation, Xbox and computers. However, this was not the case once. We had arcades where we could play a number of games.
We are sure that many of you remember the arcades, which we can call the ancestors of PlayStation and Xbox. We are even sure that many people have met the game world for the first time thanks to arcade. We have compiled for you some of the first games we played in arcades that drew us all into the game world.
Super Mario Bros.
Yes, undoubtedly the most loved and most played arcade game is Super Mario. Since 1983, Super Mario has been offering us things that we cannot find in many games nowadays. There was love, friendship, fear, whatever you might call in the game.
We all felt a bit of sadness when we realized that we were going to defeat the monster and save the princess. When we rescued the princess and brought her to our castle, we were proud as if all our efforts had paid off.
Tekken
Tekken, which entered the lives of many of us with an arcade, is one of the rare games that continues to be played in series today. We had a lot of fun playing arcade games with our family members and friends.
When we were talking about mutually chosen characters and skill wars, we wouldn’t understand how the time passed. Tekken had rivals back then, though not as much as it does today.
Contra
Those who like action movies may have played Contra quite a bit for a while. Because the game made us feel like we were in an action movie. Enemies coming towards you, obstacles that you have to jump, automatic fire weapons and flames… There was nothing.
Of course, it is not possible to compare it with today’s shooter or action games. However, Contra, where we were able to defeat every monster with a single weapon, will always have a different place for us.
Adventure Island
Adventure Island, where we ran around like Tarzan with our little feet, was quite reminiscent of Super Mario in terms of gameplay. Many of us would come to this perilous island to take our victory lap after saving the princess in Super Mario for this very reason.
One of the biggest features that made the game popular was that the eggs that we found on the way and opened by kicking them gave all kinds of gifts. The most fun of these gifts was undoubtedly skateboarding. Although it may seem simple to us now, it was very nice for our character to have such abilities in the games at that time.
Excite Bike
Again, something we are not used to seeing in arcade games was riding a motorcycle. Because in many games we were either driving, fighting or running around for a purpose.
Excite Bike, which moved away from a classic racing game in this sense, offered us a different experience. The game was very popular at that time and became one of the most played arcade games. But now many of us have trouble remembering even his name.
Bomberman
No doubt Bomberman taught us the importance of timing. From time to time, we detonated ourselves with the bombs we set up, but as a result, we somehow found the exit door.
Of course, it wasn’t easy to break all the stones and find the door when there were a lot of monsters walking around. However, Bomberman was still one of the most entertaining arcade games.
Mortal Kombat
We met Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Sonya, Kanyo and many other characters for the first time at the arcade. Now, we all know the legendary Mortal Kombat characters and even their stories.
A lot has changed in the game since the days we played in Atari. Many of the characters we saw in the past are not included in the last games of the series. On the other hand, many movies of the series were shot and we had the opportunity to watch different characters in these movies. With all this, Mortal Kombat managed to make its name known to the whole world.
TANK
Perhaps the best part of the game was that it had all sorts of upgrades. Some were able to destroy all enemy tanks and end the game, while others could create a protective shield around us.
Of course, it was not uncommon for us to focus too much on these upgrades and destroying enemies and forget the symbol we needed to protect. Indeed, just like us, our enemies also had a purpose.
Street Fighter
One of the main games that we can count among Tekken’s competitors was Street Fighter. Although a new PC game has been released in recent years, Street Fighter has been overshadowed by many fighting games.
Tetris
The arcades appealed to people of all ages. One of our parents’ favorite games was undoubtedly Tetris. The game has been played so much and loved so much that many similar games are still being developed today.
The game, which was developed in 1984, which is similar to other arcade games, continues to maintain its nostalgic atmosphere in all series since the day it was released.
