If you own a Samsung SSD, the best disk management software you can use is undoubtedly Samsung’s own tool, Magician. We take a comprehensive look at what this constantly updated software offers.
What is Samsung Magician?
Samsung Magician, also called Samsung SSD Magician Software, is a powerful optimization tool provided by Samsung. Software that comes with a dark theme; It can be used to monitor drive health, customize your SSD, and maximize performance.
Driver Information
Drive Information bölümünde, bilgisayarınıza bağlı tüm sürücüler hakkında kısa bir genel bakış elde edebilirsiniz. Bu ekranda, SSD’nizin sağlığına ilişkin temel göstergelerin yanı sıra sıcaklık, test sonuçları ve sürücülerinizin kullanılmış ve boş hacimlerine kolay erişim sağlayabilirsiniz.
Driver Management
Samsung Magician’s Drive Management can help you maintain the health of your drive and improve performance. There are 5 different parts here. Let’s take a look one by one:
- Drive Details: This is a section where you can get more detailed information about the selected disk, including drive health, temperature, serial number, interface, Firmware, AHCI Mode, total partitions, and partition detail. It also includes SMART check, which examines your SSD and detects potential drive failure before it happens.
- Performance Comparison: You can check the performance of the driver here. The test process will take a few minutes. Wait patiently and do not take any other action during the process. In the benchmark results, you can see the sequential/random read/write speed of the drive.
- Diagnostic Scan: You can decide to perform a partial or full scan for your SSD to identify and fix potential problems and preserve the capabilities of your drive.
- Over Provisioning: This feature can help you allocate a certain capacity of the disk to available space to improve performance and lifespan.
- Performance Optimization: If you want to improve the performance of your drive without Over Provisioning, you can try Performance Optimization. This section allows you to turn on RAPID mode and TRIM scheduling.
RAPID mode stands for Real-time Accelerated Processing of I/O Data, which optimizes system performance by using your system’s DRAM as cache for storage.
RAPID mode requires a 1 GHz or faster processor, at least 2 GB of DRAM, 50 MB of free disk space, and an NTFS file system. TRIM deletes data from blocks that are no longer used to improve storage device performance.
Data Management
Samsung Magician’s latest chapter is Data Management, which can help you manage and protect valuable data on your drive. There are 3 features in this section.
- Secure Erase: This is a feature that allows you to permanently erase the data stored on your drive. If you need to sell your drive, you can use this feature to ensure that the information stored on it is permanently lost. During the process, you need to create a bootable USB drive. This feature is not supported for Windows 8/8.1.
- PSID Revert: PSID Revert is a feature that allows you to unlock and factory reset your drive by entering the 32-character PSID password printed on the drive label. All data on the target drive will be erased in the decryption process.
- Encrypted Drive: This feature will help you encrypt storage devices with BitLocker to prevent untrusted others accessing your private and sensitive data.
Besides the above features, you can find a button for update in the lower left corner of the window called Update. From here you can update all drivers to the latest Firmware software version.
Samsung Magician doesn’t need an internet connection to work, but if you want to update the firmware, you must be connected to the internet. After the update, your computer will automatically shut down after 20 seconds countdown.
Warning: There is always a risk of data loss when updating firmware. Before updating the firmware, you should back up your data and close all running applications except Samsung Magician. Also, do not cut off the power during operation.
